Hotel Block

We've have a hotel block at the Windsor Suites. You can call 1-877-784-8379 and tell them you're with the Veneto-Grady Wedding to get the block rates:

One Bed Studio $119. Two Bed Studio $129.
One Bed Suite $159. Two Bed Suite $169.

You must reserve by August 26th to receive the block rate.

From their website: "Our studio suites are larger than the average hotel room, with large closets and comfortable living space. Our one bedroom suite features a large bedroom and a living room, and walk out balconies overlooking the elegant Benjamin Franklin Parkway."

"All our suites come with fully equipped kitchens with seating for two."

The hotel used to be apartments which is why the rooms are a little bigger than average and have kitchens.

Other Accommodations

Also within walking distance of the Library are the Sheraton, the Embassy Suites, and the Four Seasons.

There is also a 15.2% Room Tax on all hotel rooms in Philadelphia. Boo!

If you have the interest or ability to make a slightly longer trip, you could stay in one of the beautiful outlying areas. We particularly enjoy the Brandywine Valley (see the blog post on Brandywine Valley).

Getting There

The Library and nearby Hotels are an easy 20 minute drive from the Philadelphia Airport.

The Acela Express from Boston to Philadelphia is less than a 5 hour trip. The Philadelphia 30th Street Station stop is just a mile from our venue and the above listed hotels.

Getting Around

Parking at the Windsor Suites is expensive -- $31/night. But there are some other slightly less expensive lots nearby. Check out the Philadelphia Parking Authority webpage and put in the address "1700 Benjamin Franklin Parkway". They'll show you the nearest lots and if you click on them you can find out the overnight/weekend parking rates.

If you are just coming in for the weekend, and plan to stay at this hotel, you could easily forgo renting a car altogether. The Philadelphia taxis have a flat rate for trips from the airport to Center City of $25. Public rail transportation is also available from the Airport for $5.50, the closest station is Suburban Station (just as a warning, the station is perfectly nice and safe during the day, but evidently at night a lot of homeless people sleep there) but there are 4 or 5 other stations within a mile of the hotel (with less transient activity).

The hotel is an easy walking distance to many attractions such as The Franklin Institute and City Hall. It is less than a mile to the Museum of Art, with the famous steps that Rocky ran up, and only a mile to Independence Hall, where the founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

Also, in Center City is the Phlash bus, which is $5 for an all day pass and stops at 21 popular attractions. Spot no. 14 is essentially at the front door of the hotel.

Parking at the Library

The Library does not have parking, but there are about 30 metered spots in front of the Library alone, that are free after 6:00pm. Since the Library closes at 5:00, most of these should be open. There is also a lot of street parking on the same street, Vine Street, on the block before and after the Library.

Or you can check out the Philadelphia Parking Authority webpage for the closest parking lots, their hours of operation, and prices.
